The subject of the weblog says it all, for most of us. We can’t forget about what happend a year ago, where we were at the moment we found out what was happening in New York on 9-11. Maybe a good question is, do we live in a “New York state of mind” do we realise day by day the world has changed. Or is this just a feeling we think we have. Did the world change for all of us in person? Personally I have been in the USA about 12 days after the attacks and felt the shock the Americans experienced. Everyone was talking about it, people in a bar would start a discussion about it with you.. people you didn’t know at all. America thought, was awake was suddenly realising they weren’t the only ones in the world and that there are total crazy people in this world that do not care about a human life (or 3000). Almost a year later that state of mind changed back to the ‘normal way of thinking’ recently I discussed the situation with someone in the states and was asked: “So erm you’re from holland, now tell me are you also against the attacks? or is your country supporting th attacks?” I allmost got mad but then realised this is what is the biggest problem of all. I won’t say all americans are like this, no actually most of the Americans I know are well educated and have a clue where Holland is and what it’s positition in the world is. But it points out the biggest problem, if an American doesn’t even know their friends how can they know their enemy? Maybe the new Homeland security agency should take care of a little bit of education, that will help in understanding the world and that everybody is depending on everybody. That same thing applies to the middle-east ofcourse if you’re told who your enemy is, and don’t try to get to know them first you won’t see anything else than an enemy. Maybe we all should try to get that “New York state of mind” a little bit more, realising that there is a world, with people around us and that you should know your friends understand what someone else thinks and why. Still everybody is after the people who did this, but try to understand what made them do it, try to take that cause away. And also be aware of those reasons, know the world. Think about that capitol of the world, think of that New York, feel that “New York state of mind”.
